The Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) in partnership with The International Law Association (ILA) have scheduled to jointly commence Advanced Certificate training in International Law and Diplomacy between July 22 – 26, 2024
The one-week long intensive training program which is scheduled to kickstart on Monday, July 22 will, in the opening ceremony, feature the Director General of NIALS, Professor Muhammad Tawfiq Ladan (Hubert Humphrey Fellow, USA) and the President of the Nigerian Branch of the International Law Association, Professor Damilola S. Olawuyi SAN, as presenters of welcome Address and Opening remarks, respectively.
According to the programs lined up for the training, Goodwill messages will be presented by Ambassador Usman Sarki, the Former Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, New York, and Mrs Beatrice Jedy-Agba, mni, Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Abuja.
Two others to join the duo above in the presentation of the Goodwill messages include Chief Bayo Ojo, Patron ILA Nigeria, former Attorney General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Eghobamien Mshelia Ester, Vice Chair and Nigeria’s Representative, UN Committee on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
Resource Persons for the training include Professor Damilola S Olawuyi who will take the trainees through, “Foundations: Nature and Sources of International Law”, while Professor Amos Enabulele will take them on, “Key Actors and Institutions in International Law and Diplomacy”.
Professor Ibe Ifeakandu, PhD, and Professor Jonathan Aremu will train the participants on, “Introduction to Public International Law: Focus on International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, and, “International Economic Integration – AFCTA and Other Regional Instruments”, respectively.
The training will also feature resource persons like Dr Ayodele Akenroye, Dr Aderomola Adeola and Eduardo Pereira who will take the participants through – “Introduction to Public International Law – International Criminal Law”, “Artificial Intelligence, Intellectual Property Law and New Technologies”, and, “International Energy and Petroleum Transactions”, respectively.
Dr Izuoma Egeruoh-Adindu, and Animi Sylvester Pepple will train the the participants on, “International Environmental Law and Sustainable Development – Focus on Climate change, Biodiversity and Pollution Control”, and, ” Introduction to Conflicts and Conflict Resolution in International Law”, respectively.
While Professor Tolulope Aderemi, Dr Eghaso Ekhator will train the participants on, “International Commercial Arbitration and ADR, “Business, Human Rights, ESG, and Corporate Climate Litigation”, respectively, Professor Ibe Ifeakandu, Dr Izuoma Egeruoh-Adindu, Mr Clement Osuya, FCIArb,UK, will asses the participants by subjecting them to Practical Exercise; after which there will be group presentations by the participants to be followed by presentations of certificates.
