Armed men invaded, for the second time in less than one month, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in Kaduna State and whisked away a lecturer, his Wife and a daughter.
A statement signed by Auwalu Umar, Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the University said the armed men invaded the house of the staff on Sardauna Crescent, Area BZ, Main Campus, samaru, Zaria at about 12:30 pm Monday, and went away with their victims.
Umar said security agents who were immediately informed, responded rapidly and engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel, thereby forcing them to take to their heels with their victims when it was clear that they would be overpowered.
He said as the resilient police went after the kidnappers to kasuwar Da’a, a Village bordering the university, they released the wife and the daughter and went away with the husband.
“The inspector General of Police and all relevant government establishments have been duly informed of the unfortunate incident”, the statement added.
The vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Kabiru Bala, urged the University community to remain calm and be vigilant to avoid further recurrence.
It would be recalled that last month Kidnappers invaded the same area BZ of the Institution where they kidnapped a Nurse with the University’s medical Centre, Mrs Rahma and her 13 year old Son
