Nasarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) has made history by launching the world’s first Medical Geology postgraduate programme at the Jose Centino International Centre for Medical Geology (JacMedGeo) Research. This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant milestone in the field of medical geology, a multidisciplinary science that explores the relationship between geological processes and human health.

According to Dr. Kitso Nghargbu, Director of Linkages and International Cooperation at NSUK, medical geology is a new discipline that no other tertiary institution globally has offered.

“Medical geology is the study of geological processes and materials that impact human health and the environment. It’s a field that has immense potential to improve human lives and mitigate the effects of natural disasters,” he explained.

The program, which has been approved by relevant education authorities, offers postgraduate diploma, master’s, and doctoral degrees in medical geology. The curriculum has been peer-reviewed by renowned experts in medical geology research worldwide. With a team of 32 faculty members from across the globe, NSUK is poised to become a forefront international research center in medical geology.

Applications for the program are now open, and the university has already received interest from over ten countries. This pioneering initiative is set to revolutionize the field of medical geology and cement NSUK’s position as a leader in innovative education.
