The Mass Communication Department of Ahmadu Bello University’, Zaria, has recorded an exceptional accomplishment, solidifying its position as a hub for academic excellence with the promotion of Dr. Shamsuddeen Muhammad, Dr. Ibrahim Jimoh, and Dr. Maryam Ibrahim to the rank of Full Professors.
Emergence of the three newly minted professors will no doubt strengthen the department’s capacity for innovative research, exceptional teaching, and mentoring future communication leaders.
The promotions underscore the university’s commitment to academic distinction, enhancing its reputation as a pacesetter among its peers.
Professor Shamsuddeen, who has been serving as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences since 2021, is a renowned scholar and educator.
Before joining ABU, Professor Shamsuddeen had lectured at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, and holds first, second, and third degrees in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano.
Professor Ibrahim Jimoh, Ph.D., is a Professor of Media and Communication Studies educated at Bishop Johnson Primary School and Uhriapele Mixed Secondary School, Sapele, Delta State. He holds degrees in Mass Communication from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and Bayero University, Kano (BUK). His research interests include Media Management, Development Communication, Health Communication, Media Research and Theories, PR, Advertising, Online and Social Media. He is a member of the National Risk Communication Technical Working Group (NRCTWG) of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Consultant for International Republican Institute (IRI) Abuja.
Professor Maryam Ibrahim was born on June 6, 1972, in Udubo, Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. She attended Women Arabic Teachers College, Alkaleri, and College for Legal and Islamic Studies, Misau. She obtained her B.A. in Mass Communication from Bayero University Kano (1996), M.A. in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri (2007), and Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Bayero University Kano (2016). Before joining ABU, Professor Ibrahim worked as a Public Relations Officer at Federal Medical Center, Azare (2002) and later joined Kaduna State University (2008). She is happily married with six children.
The new professorial appointments is expected to enhance postgraduate training and research, foster cutting-edge scholarship and innovation.
