The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) concluded its two-day accreditation review yesterday at Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic Bori. The exercise aimed to evaluate the institution’s compliance with NBTE standards, focusing on resource inspection for 10 programs and re-accreditation for 32 others.
At the exit briefing held yesterday evening in Portharcourt, Dr. Fatima Kabir Umar, Director of Polytechnic Programs at NBTE, emphasized the significance of accreditation in maintaining quality education. She commended the polytechnic’s commitment to quality and encouraged continuous improvement.
“The NBTE assessment focuses on five key parameters,” Dr. Umar explained. “These include Programme Content and Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Resources, Staffing and Staff Development, Student Support Services, and Research and Development.”
The accreditation team evaluated the polytechnic based on these parameters, which enable the NBTE to grade institutions based on their performance, with accreditation status ranging from interim to full accreditation.
The Rector, Engineer Dr. Ledum Suanu Gwarah, appreciated the accreditation team’s thoroughness. However, resource persons identified areas for growth, particularly in staff human relations, and advised management to address these shortcomings.
Dr. Umar stressed that accreditation promotes excellence in technical education, enhancing institutional credibility and graduate employability. By undergoing accreditation, Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic demonstrates its commitment to providing quality education and enhancing its reputation.
Accreditation benefits both institutions and students, ensuring:
– Quality education
– Improved employability
– Enhanced institutional credibility
– Increased student confidence
The polytechnic’s commitment to quality education is evident in its participation in this accreditation process, and the NBTE looks forward to continued collaboration.
