The Zamfara State Governor, (Dr) Bello Mohammed, MON (Matawallen Maradun), has applauded the management of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara state over the achievements of the University in its few years of establishment.
The Governor made this known at the maiden combined Convocation of the University in Gusau, Zamfara State.
Gov. Mohammed said the University has been very focused in pursuit of the University’s vision.
“It is indeed worthy of note that Federal University Gusau has achieved the objective of its establishment, which is to become a true Centre of Excellence in education and research as well as greater community service.
“I am confident that the university will surely operate beyond providing education for the sake of acquiring a certificate for white-collar jobs, but for providing knowledge which will empower our youth to become self-reliant and employers of labour”, the Governor sad.
The Zamfara number one man pointed out that there won’t be any meaningful development in the society without a genuine commitment to education, calling on the university authorities to give more emphasis on instilling entrepreneurship and skills acquisition mechanisms.
The Matawallen Maradun, while assuring the University of support of the state government, expressed appreciation over the University’ s commitments towards the development of the state.
“I would like to assure the management, staff and students of this great institution of our continuous support towards taking the institution to even higher levels.”
“You are indeed our partners in progress, and we shall remain grateful for your enormous contributions to the development of our state.
“It is our hope that the staff, students and the entire university community will continue to rededicate themselves to the cause of education and service of humanity. It is only through such concerted efforts, dedication to duty and effective service delivery that the goal of education and by extension the national goals could be achieved”, he said.
Expressing his administration’s commitments to education, Gov. Bello said, his administration has registered WAEC and NECO examinations for all eligible candidates in the state and has also cleared the backlog inherited from previous administrations.
“As a step towards reverting the ugly situation, we have revived the State Government overseas merit scholarship program for young undergraduates, with the sponsoring of 200 students to study Medicine, Nursing Sciences, Medical Imaging and other specialist para-medical and engineering courses in India, Sudan, Cyprus and China. The state government has already released 100% of their tuition, accommodation, feeding and other upkeep allowances.
“We also intend to restore the payment of the long forgotten local bursary allowances for undergraduate students as well as introduce a special post-graduate studies support scheme to encourage students from humble backgrounds to proceed on postgraduate studies.
“My administration will continue to invest massively in upgrading the infrastructure and other learning tools in all our primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, including supporting all other institutions operating in our state”, the Governor added.
