The World Institute for Gender Studies (WIGS) has recognized the renowned Gender Expert Prof. Eugenia Chika Akpa for the ‘Advanced Executive Certificate in Leadership and Management’ award in Istanbul.
Professor Akpa of the Department of Sociology gets into the strategic honorary investiture for global leadership of the London Bridge Business School, LBBS-UK in conjunction with the World Institute for Gender Studies (WIGS) and becoming a member of the distinguished Istanbul Class of 2025.
The Investiture which took place on 20th January, 2025 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Istanbul Beylikduzu also recognized eight other global industry and academic personalities.
The Gender Expert is a globally renowned Professor of Environmental Sociology and Gender Studies who served as the former Head of Department of Sociology, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and was the immediate past coordinator of Ahmadu Bello University Gender Policy Unit. She is an academic of international repute with over 40 international and regional publications who have graduated more than PhDs and over 25 Masters students.
The recognition of Professor Akpa by the World Institute for Gender Studies comes as a testament for her tenacious academic drives in the areas of Gender Mainstreaming in Livestock Farming, Basic Education Curriculum and Pedagogy Development in Nigeria, Gender Mainstreaming in Work Place in Nigeria, drafting of Gender and Social Inclusion Policies in many states, and working to enhance rural access and mobility projects in Nigeria.
Professor Akpa who had her first and second degrees in sociology, rose through the academic ranks from a graduate assistant in 1993 to the peak of academic rank of a professor in 2020.
Besides academia, Prof. Akpa is also a global citizen who is a member of the Society for Occupational Safety and Environmental Health, Initiative for Women Studies in Nigeria and Women Study Group, ABU, Zaria.
She is also the President of the Lady of St. Mulumba, the President of the Catholic Women Organisation Samaru, Zaria, and a Board Member of the Ihenu Humanitarian Association, Ebonyi State Nigeria.
