Gwantu Chiefdom in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State is mourning the loss of one of its oldest and most revered traditional title holders, Baba Isa Shamaki.

Baba Shamaki passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the remarkable age of 104, after a protracted illness.

Baba Shamaki, who was the senior brother of Turakin Gwantu, Adamu Isa Shamaki, a retired senior Customs officer, left behind an impressive legacy. He is survived by 16 children, 80 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.

Among his children are notable personalities, including Hon. Samuel Isa Shamaki, Senior Legislative Aide to Hon. Daniel Amos, Member representing Jema’a/Sanga.

Others are Shamaki T. Isa, DSC Correctional Service; Habu Isa Shamaki, ASP Nigerian Police Force; Linda Yayok, Principal Fadan Karshi Secondary School; Jacob Isa Shamaki, Marine College of Fisheries, Lagos; Mary Joseph, Civil Defense Lafia; and Fidelis T Isa, Inspector of Police, Abuja.

Baba Shamaki’s burial is scheduled to take place in his country home, Gwantu, on February 15, 2025. His passing is a significant loss for the Gwantu Chiefdom
