Ibrahim Musa Giginyu, Kano

Kano State, on 21st August, 2021, witnessed another historic celebration that will shape the future story of the state.

It was a day that another son of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, was officially presented with the staff of office as the second Emir of Bichi Emirate, along with all the insignia of the title.

It is indeed history in the making as the two Bayeros serve as Emirs at the same time in the state.

It would be recalled that only about two months ago, one of the children of the late Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, was officially presented with the staff of office as the Emir of Kano Emirate.

His Highness, Nasir Ado Bayero, was born on 2nd February, 1964, into the respected family of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero. His mother, Hajiya Maryam Bayero, who passed away recently, was an Ilorin Princess.

Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero is a descendant of the Kano Fulani ruling house of Emir Ibrahim Dabo, who reigned from 1819 to 1849, then Emir Abdullahi Maje Karofi, who reigned from 1855 to 1883, Emir Muhammadu Abbas from 1903 to 1919, Emir Abdullahi Bayero, who reigned from 1926 to 1953 and Emir Ado Bayero, who reigned from 1963 to 2014.

The Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero, is also a Prince from his maternal side as his mother was from the Fulani ruling house of Ilorin. His mother, late Hajiya Maryam, was a descendant of the leader of the Fulani dynasty in Ilorin, Sheikh Salihi Janta, also called Shehu Alimi and also the first Fulani Emir of Ilorin, Abdulsalami Dan Shehu Alimi, who reigned from 1824 to 1842, Emir of Ilorin, Zubair Dan Abdulsalami, who reigned from 1860 – 1868, Emir of Ilorin Shu’aibu Bawa Dan Zubair, from 1915 to 1919 and Emir of Ilorin, Abdulkadir Dan Shu’aibu Bawa from 1920 to 1959. Emir Dan Shu’aibu Bawa was the father of Hajiya Maryam Ado Bayero.

As well as being a Prince from both maternal and paternal sides, the Emir of Bichi is the third son of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

He ascended the Bichi royal throne after his brother, Aminu Ado Bayero, the first Emir of Bichi, was named the Emir of Kano, following the deposition of his nephew, Muhammadu Sanusi II, by Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Like the few privileged Princes, His Highness, the Emir of Bichi shouldered responsibilities at an early age in his life.

He was made to serve his people in some of the most metropolitan and cosmopolitan districts with very complex social nature in the Kano Emirate.

At the age of 30, his father gave him his first royal task as the Tafidan Kano and District Head of Tarauni. That was on the 6th May, 1994; and he was elevated on the 30th of June, 2000, to the position of Kano and District Head of Tarauni. However, in May 2007, he was transferred from Tarauni to Nassarawa, as district head and on November 2, he was elecated to the post of Ciroman Kano and member of the Kano Emirate Council while still serving as the District Head of Nassarawa.

Indeed his resounding successes in these offices are attended to by the tremendous growth and development of these communities under his stewardship.

His Highness, the Emir of Bichi worked with the Continental Merchant Bank Nigeria, before he moved to Coastal Corporation Oil and Gas in Houston, Texas and Hamlet Investment Ltd in London. He later worked with the Presidency as an Administrative Officer.

As an accomplished Entrepreneur and Consummate Manager of people and business, he sits on the board of several businesses. He is also the Chairman of Enclo Limited, a Nigerian company providing currency operations support services and security document design and printing solutions to the Central Bank of Nigeria and other financial institutions.

He Highness, the Emir of Bichi also chairs the board of Misana Energy Resources Limited, an E and P company; 9mobile Nigeria Limited, just as he has served as director in several local and international companies.

He had his primary and secondary education in Kano and proceeded to the University of Maiduguri in Borno State, where he graduated with a degree in Mass Communication. He did his National Youth Service with the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NIER), Ibadan, Oyo State.
