In a major shake-up, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has relieved the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, of her position. The University’s Governing Council has also been dissolved, effective immediately.
The changes at the University of Abuja are part of a broader leadership overhaul affecting several federal universities. The move is aimed at revitalizing Nigeria’s higher education system and strengthening governance and academic excellence.
Professor Lar Patricia Manko has been appointed as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja for a six-month term. She will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the university and implementing reforms aimed at improving academic standards and governance.
Meanwhile, Senator Lanre Tejuoso has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of the University of Abuja. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, having previously served as Pro-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
The leadership changes at the University of Abuja are part of a wider overhaul of Nigeria’s federal universities. Other institutions affected by the changes include the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), the University of Uyo, the Federal University of Lokoja, Alvan Ikoku University of Education, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
At UNN, Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu has been relieved of his position as Acting Vice Chancellor, and replaced by Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam for a six-month term. Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor of UNN..
