The Director of Total Child Computer and CBT Centre, Dutse Makaranta, Abuja, Mr. Uwabor Lucky Nelson, has commended Ahmadu Bello University’s (ABU) Distance Learning Centre (DLC) for its exceptional handling of the ongoing examinations at his centre.
In an exclusive interview with Education Monitor, Nelson expressed his gratitude to the ABU DLC management for partnering with Total Child, citing the university’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s premier institutions.
“We are honored to work with ABU and committed to justifying the confidence they have placed in us,” Nelson said. “We will ensure that the exams continue to run smoothly and efficiently.”
Nelson assured that Total Child would live up to ABU’s renowned academic standards and excellence. “We are prepared to implement any observations or advice from the university to improve future examinations,” he said.
The partnership between Total Child and ABU’s DLC has enabled students from various parts of the country to participate in the examinations, leveraging Total Child’s state-of-the-art facilities and technical expertise.
Meanwhile, students undertaking the current DLC Nursing examinations at the centre expressed concerns about inadequate study materials, particularly textbooks, which they believe hindered their studies.
The students appealed to the DLC management to ensure lecturers cater to the diverse needs of students, many of whom are working-class individuals who balance academic pursuits with professional responsibilities.
“We understand that the DLC programme is designed to be flexible and accommodating, but we need more support in terms of study materials and lecturer engagement,” said one student, who preferred to remain anonymous.
Nelson also called on the government to review the taxation policy on centres like Total Child, citing the overwhelming tax burden that threatens their survival. “We believe our efforts deserve consideration, and we hope the government will take our plight into account,” he added.
As the examinations continue, Total Child remains committed to providing a seamless and efficient experience for students, while also advocating for the necessary support and resources to ensure the success of the DLC programme.
