Many concerned individuals worldwide may perceive the current Islamic system of government in Iran as something new and unlike the Western democratic model that champions majority rule while protecting minority rights.
However, those familiar with Islamic principles understand that Islam places great emphasis on human rights and equality, stating that all individuals are equal in the eyes of God. The Quran highlights that the most honorable individuals are those who display righteousness (Quran 49:13). Justice is a fundamental concept in Islam, with the Quran and Hadith stressing fairness and justice for all, regardless of factors such as race, gender, or social status (Quran 4:135).
Islam provides women with rights to inheritance, education, and participation in social, economic, and political spheres. The Prophet Muhammad emphasized the importance of treating women with respect and kindness. Islamic teachings also advocate for the protection and fair treatment of religious and ethnic minorities, as well as promoting social welfare and social responsibility.
Furthermore, Islam introduced measures to improve the conditions of slaves and encouraged their emancipation, despite the existence of slavery in pre-Islamic times.
In the wake of President Ebrahim Raeisi’s martyrdom, there have been thorough discussions about his successor, with the election outcome determining who will assume the position. Regardless of the victor, it is expected that they will build upon the positive foundations laid by the late President Raeisi, particularly regarding Iran’s support for the oppressed worldwide, particularly the oppressed people of Palestine.
Personally, I believe that Western democracy has failed to adequately protect the rights of the oppressed across the globe, especially in African countries and certain Asian communities like Myanmar. The hypocrisy of the West became evident when the people of Palestine were subjected to extermination by the settler state in the Middle East.
We should not overlook the commendable commitment of Iranian citizens in working towards the betterment of their country, as well as the Iranian leadership’s dedication to protecting the rights of the oppressed worldwide. It is crucial for us to revisit and understand the true nature of both the Islamic system of government and Western democracy.
