Following the recent rapprochement between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, Muslims, particularly followers (Shiites) of the School of Thought of Ahlulbait – Progeny of the Holy Prophet of Islam – Muhammad, Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him, for the first time in several years, openly gathered in different cities and towns in the Kingdom to commemorate the brutal killing of Imam Husain – the Grandson of the Holy Prophet (SAWA), alongside 72 of his righteous companions in the plains of Karbala – Iraq, by the forces of Yazid bn Muawiyah in the year 61 AH

The rapprochement which was welcomed by peace-loving muslims all over the world, especially those who are conscious of the evil plots and machinations of the foes of Islam, is expected to bring to an end the age-long needless, resolvable and artificially created enemity, hostility and division among Sunni and Shia Muslims, which consequently affected the unity, strength and development of Islam and its adherents

Since the globally commended resolution of the protracted disputes between the Kingdom and Iran, Shia Muslims have been accorded the freedom to freely conduct their religious activities without molestation or any form of harassment by the Saudi authorities, unlike in Nigeria where such freedom was not guaranteed by the ertswhile Pro-israeli and despotic regime of General Muhammadu Buhari

This rapprochement is no doubt one of the reasons that has today led to the Shia community to commemorate the Ashura tragedy in the entire kingdom, particularly in the Qatif region.

Recall that it was also as a result of the same development that Iranian Pilgrims were given unprecedented red carpet reception on their arrival in Saudi Arabia for this year’s (2023) Hajj. Below is the video of the reception:
