The LL.B Class of 1978, led by Prof. Auwalu Hamisu Yadudu, has donated an N11 million solar system to Ahmadu Bello University’s (ABU) Faculty of Law.
The donation, aimed at providing a reliable power supply to the faculty’s theatre halls and staff offices, was commissioned by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala, represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim.
According to Prof. Yadudu, who represented the class president, Prof. Momodu Kassim Momodu, “On behalf of all our members, we wish to acknowledge our huge indebtedness to the Faculty of Law, ABU, Zaria from whose fountain we all owe our modest accomplishments in life.”
Our class, which began with 129 students in October 1975, has lost 58 members, including Justice Tanimu Zailani, former Chief Judge of Kaduna State. Despite this, we remain grateful for the foundation we received at ABU.
As I stated, “It is in deep gratitude and appreciation of such indebtedness that we make this token contribution to give back something in kind to the institution.” By this gesture, we hope to alleviate the hardship encountered due to recurrent power failures and create a conducive environment for learning.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Bala described the project as timely, addressing the university’s power challenges. “The project is coming at a time when power has been a very big challenge to the University,” Prof. Bala said.
Other notable attendees included Danmasanin Zazzau, Alhaji Falalu Bello Esq; Prof. Ibrahim Na’iya Sada; Abdullahi Umar Iliyasu Esq; and Shifa Garba Esq.
A goodwill message from the President, ABU Alumni Association Worldwide, Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora, was delivered by Dr. Suleiman Balarabe, Chairman of the Zaria Chapter.
The Dean of Law, Prof. Salim Bashir Magashi, described the donation as timely, enhancing activities in the faculty. “The University as a whole will remain deeply appreciative of the project,” Prof. Magashi said.
