The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) have agreed to deepen collaboration to strengthen transparency and build capacity in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The commitment came on Wednesday when NEITI’s Executive Secretary, Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to PTDF Executive Secretary, Prof. Shua’ibu Shehu Aliyu, at the PTDF Towers in Abuja.
The visit was both congratulatory and strategic. Adar congratulated Prof. Aliyu on his appointment and sought PTDF’s backing for Nigeria’s upcoming EITI validation exercise — a global assessment of how well resource-rich countries disclose and manage extractive revenues.
He praised PTDF’s role in developing human capacity for the energy sector and said NEITI’s transparency framework was already paying off.
“NEITI’s transparency framework has improved Nigeria’s investment climate, leading to renewed confidence in upstream licensing and infrastructure projects,” Adar said.
For PTDF, the meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm its mandate beyond scholarships and training. Prof. Aliyu said the Fund remained committed to working with NEITI to achieve shared national goals in the extractive industry.
“Every institution must work towards achieving one common goal, one purpose, and one agenda for the Nigerian state,” he told the delegation.
He assured NEITI of PTDF’s readiness to expand collaboration while staying focused on its core mandate of building technical and managerial capacity for the energy sector.
The engagement signals a push for closer inter-agency synergy as Nigeria seeks to boost investor confidence, plug revenue leakages, and equip its workforce for the future of energy.
