The Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD) on Wednesday, 13th May 2026, received 100 staff and students of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, for a study tour focused on the link between transportation, community engagement, and national security.
According to a statement signed by the University’s Chief Information and Communications Officer, Malam Umar Usman, the visit was held under the theme _“Promoting Community Engagement for Enhanced National Security and Prosperity.”_ It formed part of the AFCSC’s Nigeria Study Tour (NST) to selected states from 10–15 May 2026. The delegation was led by Team Leader Brigadier-General Kabir Rabi’u.
Welcoming the team on behalf of the Registrar, Deputy Registrar (Council Affairs) Mal. Abubakar Tanimu Yar’adua gave an overview of the university’s establishment and its 14 programmes spanning engineering and management courses. He expressed hope that the visit would open avenues for a beneficial partnership between FUTD and the military college, and urged the visitors to make full use of the university’s facilities.
Speaking on the purpose of the tour, Brigadier-General Rabi’u said FUTD was included due to its “unique nature” as Nigeria’s pioneer university dedicated to transportation.
“We are here to understand the demand and strategic focus of the university in supporting Nigerian transport infrastructure and the economy, and to explore how it engages the host community and contributes to youth empowerment and national development,” he said.
He added that the team would also examine how a robust transport system connects to national security, particularly in mobility, supply chains, and countering criminal activities. He thanked the university for the warm reception on behalf of the AFCSC Commandant.
In a paper titled _“FUTD: A Strategic Partner in Security Enhancement,”_ the representative of the Vice-Chancellor and Director of Academic Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar, said transportation is central to national development, regional integration, and security.
“FUTD is positioned to contribute significantly to the reduction of insecurity through education, research, technology development, capacity building, and community engagement,” Prof. Abubakar said.
He noted that the university is developing professional and executive programmes in areas such as railway signaling and communications, and transport security and safety. He added that FUTD has established collaborations with national and international institutions, industries, and government agencies to strengthen its global competitiveness.
