Professor Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto has been appointed the third substantive Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), Zamfara State.

Professor Gusau who contested the stool with 19 other very prominent and reputable Professors
scored a total of 79.5% to emerge tops, had Professor Mamman Audu Wasagu trailing behind with 76.5 while Prof Umar Adamu Danbatta took third position with a total of 75.4%.
In a statement signed by Umar Usman, the University’s Head of Information, said the announcement was made by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Rt. Hon. Yissa Ezekiel Benjamin on Thursday, 10th December, 2020 at the University’s Council Chamber immediately after the completion of the University’s 20th Council (Special) Meeting.

The appointment which is for a period of 5 years, will take effect from 10th February, 2021.

The statement quoted the Pro Chancellor Hon. Yissa Ezekiel Benjamin stating that the selection process followed laid down procedures and strictly adhered to due process.

“The University received 25 applications from erudite scholars across the country, 4 of which were searched by the University through search team constituted as provided by the law.

“Six out of the total applicants were disqualified as a result of their inability to fulfill the requirements indicated in the advertisement”, the Chairman said.

He stated that all the processes undertaken by the Council were guided by the University Miscellaneous Act 1993, Decree no. 11 and the amendment Act 2003.

He further mentioned that the process was also undertaken with full participation of 2 Principal Officers of Federal Character Commission (FCC) in the state.

Born on 16th January1966 in Gusau, Zamfara State, Prof. Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau is a Professor of Toxicology from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto and had obtained his P.hD from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom.

He had his Post Primary education between 1979 and1984 and obtained his GCEO/Level Certificate at Government Science Secondary School Gusau, Zamfara State.
From 1984 to 1989, he was able cross the threshold of intelligentsia to obtained a B.Sc.(Hons) in Biochemistry from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto,Nigeria and by 1993 he was already bagging his M.Sc.Toxicology,University of Surrey,Guildford, UK. Between 1999 and 2003, professor Gusau bagged PhD Toxicology, form University of Surrey, Guildford, UK.

Professor Gusau joined the services of Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto as Graduate Assistant in 1990 and rose through the ranks to become a professor in 2009.

Until his appointment, he was the Vice Chancellor,Zamfara State University,Talata Mafara.
