President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has (P-BAT) has approved the appointment of Dr Auwal Mustapha Imam as the Director General of Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Zaria.
Dr Imam has succeeded Professor Muhammad Kabir Yakubu, who had few weeks to serve out his one term tenure as the Director General of the premier Leather institute in the country.
Born on May 15th, 1985, in Zaria, Imam attended Baba Ahmed Primary School where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1998. He proceeded to SIASSSS Karau Karau for his SSCE which he obtained in 2004, from where he was admitted into Bayero University Kano as a remedial student in 2005.
After his remedial studies, he was offered admission into the university for his B.Sc Electronics which he obtained in 2010.
He obtained his M. Sc degree in the same department in 2014 and proceeded to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2017 where he bagged his PhD in Physics in 2019.
Until his appointment as the Director General of NILEST, Imam was an acting director at Career Centre, Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, where he taught as a senior lecturer.
He was at one time acting, and subsequently Head of department of Physics at Federal University Birnin Kebbi where he served as acting deputy dean of students affairs. He was also acting director, directorate of research and innovation in the same university
