The Honourable Justice Olukayode Ariwoola-led Governing Council of Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) has approved the promotion of eleven Academic Staff of the Institute, out of whom three were promoted to the rank of Professors, seven to the rank of Associate Professors, and one to the rank of Senior Librarian, while 52 non academic staff were elevated to various ranks.

According to a document obtained by Education Monitor from the office of the Director General of the Institute, Professor Muhammed Tawfiq Ladan, the promotion exercise for the academic and non-academic staff is for the period of 2023/2024.

According to the document, the 2nd July NIALS Governing Council Meeting was chaired by its Chairman, the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon Olukayode Ariwoola at the Supreme Court of Nigeria Complex – Abuja.

The document highlighted that, “promotion of a total of 63 academic and non-academic Institute staff have been approved by the Governing Council of the Institute for the period of 2023/2024”.

“The 52 non-academic staff were elevated to various ranks across Administration, Bursary, Audit, Council Affairs, Procurement, Editorial, Printing Press, Information and Publicity, System Administration, Data Processing, Secretarial and Artisan Cadres”, the document added.

It stressed that, “the Governing Council’s approval for the promotions reveals the Institute’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding the hard work and dedication of both academic and non-academic staff”.

“The promotions which are effective from 1st January, 2024, mark significant career advancements for the staff involved” the document stressed.

Subsequently, the Director General, in a letter titled, “Request For Implementation of Newly Promoted Staff:2023 Promotion Exercise”, addressed to the Accountant General of the Federation, drew the AGF’s attention on the exercise.

Professor Ladan informed the AGF that, “The Governing Council of the Institute, at its 52nd Regular Meeting held on Tuesday, 2nd July, 2024, considered and approved the promotion of a total of 63 staff of the Institute under the 2023 promotion exercise, covering Academic and Non-academic personnel.

“With the approval granted, I wish to respectfully request you to kindly implement the exercise accordingly”, Professor Ladan urged the AGF.
