The Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) has perfected preparations to hold a One Day Hybrid International Seminar on, ‘AFCFTA Agreement As a Model of African Economics Law: National And Regional Implementation Strategies’.

The Seminar which is scheduled to take place on the 30th of April, at Rockview Classic Hotel, Abuja, is expected to kickoff at 10:30 am prompt.

According to Program of Events available to Education Monitor, the Seminar will be attended by high profile dignatories within and outside the country, such as the President of ECOWAS Court of Justice, Hon Justice Edward Amoako Asante, SA to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (P-BAT) On Ease of Doing Business/PEBEC, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, with the DG of NIALS, Professor Muhammad Tawfiq Ladan, as Chief Host.

The 5-Keynote-Speaker Seminar will have Dr Olufemi T. Elias, Visiting Professor in International Law, Queen Mary University of London, Professor Paul Kuruk, Deputy Chairman, Ghana International Trade Commission, Accra Ghana, Dr Fallou Samb, Former Special Adviser to the Immediate Past President of Senegal, Dakar, Professor Ismail Faizel, Director, Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance, University of Cape Town, South Africa, and Professor Melaku Desta, Head of African Trade Policy Centre, UNECA, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The 5-Plenary-Session PANEL of the seminar will feature, in PANEL 1, Mr Peter Oluonye, Head, ECOWAS Investment Promotion and Financial Markets Integration, Abuja, who will speak on ‘Trade and Investment in Africa: The ECOWAS Experience’.

While PANELS 2 and 3 will feature Professor Damilola Olawuyi, SAN, Member, UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, who will speak on, ‘Settlement of Investment, Competition and IPR Disputes in Africa’; and Professor Jonathan Aremu, ECOWAS Investment Consultant, Abuja, who will speak on, ‘International Financial Laws and Taxation in Africa’, respectively.

PANEL 4 which has two speakers – Professor Olabisi D. Akinkugbe, Dalhousie University, Canada, who will speak on, ‘Trade Dispute Settlement in Africa: Challenges and Prospects’; and Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, SAN, NIALS, Former Chairman ICPC, Abuja, who will speak on Corruption Vulnerability in the Implementation of AFCTFA’.

PANEL 5 will feature Professor Ngozi Egbuna, Former DG, West African Monetary Institute, Accra, Ghana, who will speak on, ‘Monetary and Financial Integration in Africa’.

While PANELS 1 and 2 Sessions will be moderated by Professor Paul Idornigie, SAN, and Professor Adewopo Adebambo, SAN, NIALS, respectively; PANELS 3, 4 and 5 Sessions will be moderated by Professor Edoba Omeregie, SAN, NILDS, Professor Peter Akper, SAN, NIALS, and Ambassador Usman Sarki, respectively.
