The Chief of Gwantu (Mai Gwantu), in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Malam Balarabe Abdullahi Karma, has appointed and subsequently turbaned Alhaji Muhammad Umar Intu as the Mayor (Magajin Gari) of Gwantu.
The Mai Gwantu also announced the dissolution, with immediate effect, of all traditional titles awarded to all sons and daughters of present Gwantu Chiefdom, under erstwhile Numana Chiefdom.
Alhaji Karma who spoke shortly after the turbanning of the Mayor in his Palace in Gwantu on friday said, “title holders of traditional appointments awarded to all sons and daughters of my Chiefdom under former Numana Chiefdom are hereby dissolved”
The Chief has, in the same vein, called on all prominent sons and daughters of the Chiefdom who are interested in reclaiming or seeking for the traditional titles of their families or ancestors to come forward to apply for such titles, where all deserving candidates will be screened and appointed mainly on merits.
He also announced the readiness of the traditional council to confer new titles on all interested, but deserving sons and daughters of the chiefdom
Speaking earlier, the Mai Gwantu said as the mayor of the most multicultural, multireligious and multiethnic town in the local government, the new Magajin Gari must embrace and work with everyone, irrespective of his or her religious, cultural or ideological beliefs.
He also called on all the constituents of the chiefdom to always embrace peace and unity, which he emphasized that are the only panacea for successful and corporate co-existence and development of the country, the state and the local government.
