Heavily armed kidnappers numbering about nine forced their way into the house of the immediate  past Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Abdullahi Mustapha, where they abducted his 35 year old daughter, Hajiya Maryam Mustapha.

Confirming the incident in an interview with  *Education Monitor*, Professor Mustapha said the kidnappers found their way into the living room of the house at approximately 11:15 pm after overpowering the security guard at the main entrance of the house during a fierce shoot out.

The former Vice Chancellor who was stable and calm told *Education Monitor* that the kidnappers who up to the time of filing this report have not called him or any member of the family to tell them what they want and where his daughter has been taken to.

He said even though one of the kidnappers was killed during the shoot out, one of the security personnels, a middle-aged man in the name of Zayyanu Abdullahi Runka sustained heavy  injury on his stomach and is presently receiving treatment at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika-Zaria.

An eye witness who preferred to be anonymous told *Education Monitor* that she ran into the kidnappers who were in a tinted car when they were trying to escape from the house with the kidnapped lady.

The eyewitness also told Education Monitor that she saw some police men who were supposed to be at the scene of the incident running Helter skelter trying to take cover or run away from the kidnappers who were shooting indiscriminately.
