The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthen the education sector by encouraging entrepreneurship development and Innovations among Nigerian Youths.
Visitor of Federal University Gusau, President Muhammadu Buhari who made the reiteration at the First Joint Convocation Ceremony of the University through the former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, urged Nigerians to continue to embrace and support the innovative policies and programs of his administration which are meant to promote self-reliance, especially among the nation’s teeming youths.
The President said his administration’s deliberate and continuous emphasis on Agriculture is meant to move the country from a dependent and consuming nation to an Independent and Producing nation, which he said is achievable through active youth engagement in Agriculture and extractive industries.
He said this is necessary and possible especially considering the fact that there is virtually no state in the country that does not have at least one type of solid mineral or the other or specie of crop that if harnessed by Government in commercial quantity through the collective efforts of all citizens, Nigeria will one day be recognized as an industrialized nation.
Speaking earlier, during the commissioning ceremony of projects in the University, the Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro, commended the Vice Chancellor, Professor Magaji Garba, for his diligence, passion and commitment to develop the Ivory Tower.
Professor Bogoro who was supported by the Chairman Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND, Senator Babba-Kaita, during the ceremony, commissioned the Institution’s Library Complex, Academic Staff Offices, Faculty of Education Complex, 1000 Seat capacity Multipurpose Hall, a new road and a bus stop, constructed for the University by a Philanthropist and business Mogul, Alhaji Lawal Dauda Dare (Gamjin Gusau).
Professor Bogoro who expressed satisfaction over the pace of ongoing projects in the University, tasked the University to be quality minded in all its projects; adding that the Institution should build a system that will meet current and future global competitiveness.
The TETFund Boss reminded the Vice Chancellor that there is a whopping sum
of N500m that was reserved for the development of the University’s Library Complex and that is waiting to be accessed by it.
Meanwhile, the convocation churned out about 794 graduands in various disciplines from various faculties, out of whom 12 made First Class degrees.
The Vice Chancellor who made this known in his address, also revealed that the three overall best graduands have been offered automatic employment in the University as Graduate Assistants
Professor Garba expressed confidence that the graduands have been properly trained in their respective disciplines and the University believes that they are going to be its good and proud Ambassadors wherever they found themselves “we are proud of this young men and women who have worked diligently and excelled to attain this important milestone in their pursuit of degrees in higher education. We feel confident to proclaim to you that they will be successful in their chosen careers and will be good Ambassadors of Federal University Gusau”, he assured
