In a move that resembles a Zionist-sponsored project, the Kaduna State Government has demolished the 22-year-old home of Engineer Yahya Gilima, a prominent Islamic activist, intellectual, and Hamas apologist. Located at No. 11, Yahya Imam Road, Malali GRA Kaduna, the property was acquired by Engineer Gilima in 2002, with construction commencing immediately and completion in 2003.

However, on Friday, a notice was suddenly posted on the wall, demanding evacuation within 48 hours or risk demolition. Engineer Gilima expressed surprise and dismay, stating that the notice was issued on a non-working day in Kaduna State, leaving him unable to file a response before the demolition.

“I was waiting for Monday to present my objection to the wrongly filed notice by KASUPDA, but they came around 11 pm in a battle-ready form, forced us out of the house, and commenced its demolition,” he clarified.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many labeling it an attack on Engineer Gilima’s freedom as a Nigerian citizen to own land or a house without molestation or intimidation. Concerns about the government’s actions and citizens’ rights have been raised, and fears of further demolitions targeting activists and intellectuals sympathetic to the Palestinian cause have been ignited.

This demolition is reminiscent of Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s previous plans to demolish houses belonging to prominent Islamic activists and members of the Islamic movement known for their historical support and sympathy for Hamas and other oppressed groups worldwide. Although El-Rufai was unable to complete his plan, dozens of houses, medical centers, and schools belonging to the Islamic movement and its members were demolished.

The Kaduna State Government’s actions have been criticized for their timing and potential implications. Many are questioning the motivations behind the demolition and the impact it will have on the community. As tensions rise, residents and activists alike are left wondering about the government’s next move.
