In a landslide victory, Comrade Abdulrahman Halliru Saraki, a 300-level Law student, has on Thursday, emerged as the President-elect of the Ahmadu Bello University Students’ Representative Council (ABU-SRC).
Saraki secured 65 votes out of 78, with his rival, Comrade Abdulwahab Umar, a 400-level Law student, garnering 12 votes.
According to Comrade Aliyu Sani, a close associate of the President-elect, “Thursday’s election was transparent and successful, with no complaints of malpractice or favouritism.”
In his victory speech, Comrade Saraki expressed gratitude to the ABU Deanery for providing a level playing field. He also appreciated the Dean of the Faculty of Law, the Assistant Dean, and the entire student of the Faculty of Law and ABU at large. Saraki extended an olive branch to his rival, Abdulwahab, saying, “Let’s work together to make ABU-SRC great.”
Comrade Saraki has held various students’ representative positions, including Special Adviser on States’ Union Affairs to the ABU-SRC President, Vice Chairman of the ABU-SRC Welfare and Price Regulations Committee, and Director of Research for NAKLAWS, among others.
