Abdullahi Jami’u, a 300 level student of Civil Engineering department of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, passed away at the University’s Medical Center after a brief illness.

Jami’u who was 22 years old hailed from Kaduna state.

One of his friends and course mates, Abdullahi Junaidu wrote in a tribute to the deceased that “We were together with Jami’u yesterday when we wrote two series of tests, one in the morning and the other in the evening. Some of our colleagues noticed sickness on his face during the evening paper, but it was not that serious, as he was able to write the both tests, after which he went to the university medical center in the evening for the first time.”

“Jami’u was consulted and later returned to his hostel. Later in the midnight, he started complaining of the same stomach and body pain when we was rushed back to the university medical center for the second time, where he took his final breath.” Junaidu lamented.

Junaidu described the deceased as a man of the people whose smile alone can give someone a peace of mind.

He added that “you will never see him arguing with anybody, he only smiles and walk away during arguments. He was among the tutorial committee of Civil Engineering department as well as class elders. Jami’u was indeed an elder!”

In the end, Junaidu called on the management of the University Medical Center to review the way some of their staff are treating patients, saying that “Jami’u was brought to the hospital by an ambulance in serious emergency case in the midnight, but the doctor on call refused to attend to him in the name of searching for his file… Jami’u was only attended to almost two hours after being brought to the hospital. He was brought at 1am but was only attended to at 3am, and died at 5am.”
