As different opinions continue to emerge on the how, when, where, and why, about the death of the former Chief of Staff and one of the closest friends and allies of President Muhammad Buhari, Alh. Abba Kyari, whose sad event, according to the Presidency’s official sources occurred on Thursday April 16th, Health Monitor has reported views of other Nigerians on the nation’s first high profile or VIP victim of the dreaded pandemic.

Onetime Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja Chapter, Dr. Ben Ugheoke, attributed the death of Abba Kyari to the deliberate underdevelopment of Nigerian University system by Nigeria’s past and present ruling class.

Dr. Ben said, instead of investing in education to use it as a launch pad for the development of the society and the Nigerian state, the ruling class prefers to import foreign knowledge. “They send their children abroad for studies and allow the education infrastructure in Nigeria to die.” He lamented.

The former ASUU chairman said, it was not only the education sector that these people have killed by their indifference towards home   grown   strategies,   they   have  also destroyed all social infrastructure by denying them investment of resources.

“And so, the ruling class contrived and entrenched the culture of import everything; and it was the consequence of keeping with this age long culture therefore, that the ruling class and their privilege allies in the society went to other countries to import the Covid-19 which is now threatening all of us in the country.” He regretted.

“If the ruling class had invested in education, generally, and particularly in healthcare, as often advocated by ASUU, probably Kyari would have survived, like the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson”.

In his opinion on the unexpected death of the former all-powerful Chief of Staff, Mr. Ikenga Imo Ugwo Chinyere, faulted government’s relocation of the remains of the Late Abba Kyari from Lagos to Abuja for burial.

Mr. Ikenga said, it was unfortunate that, instead of the government to cremate the decease wherever he died, in line with international convention, the government had to even lax the lockdown illegally just to pave way for the burial of Abba Kyari. This action of the government, openly violated coronavirus treatment protocol.

Mr. Ikenga also faulted the treatment of the lat

e Abba Kyari at the Lagos private clinic, as it is widely speculated, describing the action as a contravention of World Health Organization’s directives because it exposes and risks the lives of health workers and other patients in the Lagos private clinic which may be why the number of cases in Lagos is increasing.

In his opinion, the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Hassa Matthew Kukah, called on the Federal Government to arrest all the people that attended Mallam Abba Kyari’s burial, because they broke its social distance rules.

He also called on the Lagos State Government to release Funke Akindele.
