Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has appointed renowned scholar of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Muhammad Kabir Aliyu, to two key leadership positions, effective November 26.
Prof. Aliyu will serve as the Pioneer Director of the newly established Center for Historical Research and Heritage Preservation and as the Head of the Department of History and Diplomatic Studies.
The double appointments coincide with Prof. Aliyu’s commencement of a one-year sabbatical leave at the university.
Prof. Aliyu’s research focus on cultural resource management, archaeological theory, and heritage studies will significantly shape the center’s objectives. As Pioneer Director, he will oversee the center’s establishment, research initiatives, foster collaborations with local and international institutions, and promote the preservation of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
As Head of the Department of History and Diplomatic Studies, Prof. Aliyu will provide academic leadership, foster research collaborations, and enhance the department’s curriculum.
Prof. Aliyu’s impressive credentials include serving as Head of Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, ABU (2013-2017), Deputy Dean of Students’ Affairs (5 years), Deputy Director of Arewa House Center for Historical Research and Documentation (5 years), and Chairman of ASUU, ABU Branch (4 years). He was also the Director of the Directorate of University Advancement, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Additionally, Prof. Aliyu has participated in prestigious programs, including the Senior Executive Course (SEC. 38) at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and the Senior Course on Research Project Management and Writing Skills sponsored by TETFUND in the United States.
Currently, Prof. Aliyu serves as Chairman of the ABU Sports Council and Faculty Advisor to the ENACTUS Team of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is a member of the National Institute (mni).
With Prof. Aliyu at the helm, the Center for Historical Research and Heritage Preservation and the Department of History and Diplomatic Studies are poised for greatness, solidifying NSUK’s commitment to academic excellence and innovative research.
