In an extraordinary display of academic excellence, two students from Yobe State, Nigeria, have claimed top prizes at the prestigious 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London.
Seventeen-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu emerged as the world’s best in English language skills, outperforming over 20,000 students from 69 countries. Representing Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), her victory demonstrates remarkable proficiency in a competition dominated by native English-speaking nations.
The Aminu family celebrated her achievement in a statement by Hassan Salifu: “Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary support for education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose efforts have brought international honor to our state and nation.”
Adding to Yobe’s glory, 15-year-old Rukayya Muhammad Fema was crowned Overall Best in Debate at the same competition. Representing NTIC, her exceptional critical thinking and persuasive skills impressed judges, defeating competitors from across the globe.
The family acknowledged NTIC’s role in nurturing these talents, stating: “Her win has brought immense pride to her family, her school, her state, and the nation at large.”
Professor Isa Ali Fantami, former minister of Communications and Digital Economy joined the families of the victors and other well-wishers in calling for official federal government recognition of these achievements, proving Nigerian students can excel globally with proper support.
“They also deserve $100,000, a three-bedroom flat and an OON national honour just like the Super Falcons and the D’Tigress,” Fantami said
These back-to-back victories highlight Yobe State’s growing reputation for academic excellence and the potential of Nigerian youth on international platforms.
