Professor Aliyu Mohammed who is the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Daura in Katsina State has lamented that the recruitment of unqualified staff into the polytechnic by the power brokers has become a misery.

Professor Mohammed stated this at the 45th quarterly meeting of the Bursars’ Association of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology (BURSCON) in Daura, alleging that much unqualified staff had been recruited into the institution.

“As a new institution, we need qualified and quality people that can take the institution to a greater height which is our area of major concern. When we commenced the process of employment in 2020 and 2021, we wanted to recruit the qualified and qualitative people t based on qualification” he added.

“But the unqualified people were imposed on us, most of them have no experience of what they were employed for but we have to accept it so to let peace reign”

Professor Mohammed listed other challenges facing the institution ranging from low internally generated revenue to a lack of funding for skill acquisition programs.

Speaking earlier, the Northwest zonal Director of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Mr. Garba Muhammed Nalado noted that Nigerian polytechnics were poorly funded by both the federal and state governments.

He advised the federal and state governments to prioritise the funding of polytechnics and colleges of education to enhance skill acquisition and vocational education to tackle unemployment in the country.
