As part of commitment to free its campus from social vices that are prevalent in Nigeria’s higher institutions of learning, the Management of the University of Mkar (UniMkar) in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency ( NDLEA), Benue State Command organised a sensitisation lecture for staff and Students of the University on Drug and substance abuse on Thursday 23/6/2023.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Zacharys Anger Gundu while delivering his welcome address noted with delight the significance of the sensitisation lecture and appreciated the NDLEA for honouring the clarion call of the university to sensitise staff and students on the consequences of drug and substance abuse.
The Deputy State Commander, Operations and Investigation, Mrs Maureen Ahua(DCN) who was introduced by the State Commander, Mrs Esther Lami Musa CN, gave the sensitisation lecture on ” Drug/Substance Abuse and its consequences”
She advised both staff and students to abstain from illicit drugs because of its damage to individuals and the society. She explored the nexus between drug abuse and crimes and encouraged students to develop coping skills to withstand any negative pressure to use drugs.
The sensitisation lecture featured the decoration of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Zacharys Anger Gundu, as Ambassador of the WAR AGAINST DRUG ABUSE (WADA).
The War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Club, University of Mkar, Mkar chapter was inaugurated following an exhibition of illicit drugs.
