The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has stated that the strike will continue despite payment of the unsolicited minimum wage arrears by the Federal Government (FG) which is not part of their core demands.
This was contained in a circular by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) branch of the union.
Dele Ashiru, the Chairman of UNILAG ASUU, confirmed the authenticity of the circular, according to punchng.com on Saturday.
Ashiru said the arrears payment was long overdue which is not among the core demands that the union had clamored for.
The circular read that the Leadership of the Branch has received a numerable number of calls concerning the payment of the long-overdue arrears due to the adjustment of the minimum wage.
The demands of the union are gbe conclusion of the 2009 Federal Government of Nigeria/ASUU agreement, abrogation of the fraudulent and corrupt IPPIS scheme, the deployment of UTAS, payment promotion arrears, and the proliferation of State Universities, and governance issues amongst others.
The union welcomes the unsolicited payment, the members should please conserve the funds and spend wisely to energize their struggle until their demands are satisfactorily met.
