State of the Nation: An Open Letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Fellow Nigerians

Dear President Tinubu and Fellow Nigerians,

In addressing the current challenges facing Nigeria, it is vital that the government promptly implements effective economic and social solutions. This includes deploying reliable personnel to administer comprehensive social welfare programmes, offering immediate assistance to the most vulnerable, and enacting policies that promote inclusive economic growth, job creation, and educational opportunities. Such measures will help restore hope and resilience within the population.

Mr. President, it is crucial to remember that hunger fuels anger, reflecting a fundamental truth about human nature and societal stability. Hunger extends beyond physical discomfort; it has deep psychological, social, and economic repercussions. Addressing food insecurity is both a moral imperative and a practical necessity for achieving social harmony, economic development, and political stability. By addressing the underlying causes of hunger and implementing effective solutions, we can create a society where all individuals have the opportunity to flourish.

We the people must also acknowledge that violence and vandalism pose significant risks to both the poor and the middle class. These actions further destabilise already fragile communities, leading to heightened insecurity, loss of livelihoods, and reduced access to essential services, thus exacerbating poverty and social inequality.

At this critical moment, raising the Russian flag amidst what some are calling a protest is misguided. If we are truly dedicated to our country, we must articulate our demands to those in authority and ensure they are met through legal and appropriate means. The Russian flag is not a solution to Nigeria’s problems. Nigeria requires a comprehensive and balanced approach that includes domestic reforms, diversified international partnerships, and regional cooperation. Navigating the geopolitical landscape carefully will ensure that foreign engagements align with both the long-term and short term interests of the Nigerian people that will lead to development goals.

To our security operatives, it is important to understand that the killing of civilians has serious negative implications. Such actions undermine public trust in law enforcement and government institutions, incite widespread fear and unrest, and perpetuate cycles of violence and human rights abuses, ultimately destabilising society and hindering national development. Upholding professionalism is essential in the execution of duties.

In conclusion, transforming negative attitudes such as envy (unnecessary rivalry, jealousy or spite ) , oppression, theft, dishonesty, and betrayal into positive behaviours requires a collective commitment to empathy, integrity, respect, honesty, and trustworthiness in all our interactions.
