Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has been appointed Chancellor of the Franco-British International University, FBIU, Kaduna.
Announcing the appointment on his X handle @ShehuSani on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain described it as “a great honor”. He said, “We shall work towards sustaining and elevating its highest academic reputation and standards, and strengthening the institution to achieve its noble goals”.
The university said the appointment was made in recognition of Senator Sani’s commitment to public service, exemplary leadership, and significant contributions to national development. It added that his wisdom, experience and leadership qualities make him eminently suited to the role, and expressed confidence that his tenure would usher in a new era of growth, innovation and academic excellence.
Senator Sani is a prominent Nigerian politician, human rights activist, and former lawmaker who represented Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly. He is currently the APC candidate for Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the 2027 elections after securing his party’s ticket through a direct primary.
He has maintained engagement with FBIU. In December 2025, he spoke at the university’s Human Rights Day event and called for courage in defending rights. At the institution’s maiden matriculation ceremony for 362 students admitted for the 2025/2026 academic session, he urged students to uphold discipline and good character as essential to academic excellence and protecting the university’s reputation.
Franco-British International University is a member of the MAAUN Group of Universities located in Kaduna City. The institution runs four schools: Nursing Sciences, Health Sciences, Computing, and Social and Management Sciences. It was established to combine French and British academic styles within the Nigerian educational landscape.
