The Emir of Kontagora, Niger State, traditionally called Sarkin Sudan, Alhaji Saidu Umaru Namaska Dan Malam, has appointed the Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Professor Adamu Kasim, as Wakilin Makarantan Sudan Kontagora.
Like his predecessor, Professor Muhammad Nasiru Maiturare, who was appointed Wakilin Makarantan Minna, by the Emir of Minna. His Royal Highness, Dr. Umaru Faruq Bahago, Professor Adamu Kasim was honored by the historic title in recognition of his exemplary and unprecedented contributions to education in the Emirate.
The new Wakilin Makarantan Sarkin Sudan who graciously accepted the title which he described as a privilege, promised to justify the confidence reposed on him by doing all that is within his purview to support the academic development of the Emirate.
Professor Kasim, before his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai in 2019, was the immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the University.
Professor Kasim, who is from Kontagora, was a staff of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained both his undergraduate and postgraduate degree certificates. Professor Kasim, started his academic career in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he rose to the rank of Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Sciences
He was born in Dukku of Rijau, Niger State where he hails from. He had his early school in 1980 attending Central Primary School Dukku after he left, he obtained his secondary education from 1985 to 1987 from the Government Science College. Kagara. He then proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria through the Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination known as (IJMB), and in 1989 he gained a Bachelor of Science in Botany from the same Ahmadu Bello University graduating with a second class.
He also holds a M.Sc of Botany and PhD in crop breeding at Ahmadu Bello University, he then obtained a Certificate in Tissue Biotechnology in 1995 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
