The Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Kabru Bala has appointed Professor Aishatu Abubakar Mukhtar as Assistant Director, Institute for Agricultural Research, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

The appointment which was contained in a letter signed by the Vice Chancellor, stated that the appointment was in recognition of Professor Aishatu’s academic and administrative leadership qualities.

The letter said Professor Mukhtar was to serve as Assistant Director, Extension, Monitoring and Evaluation.

Before her appointment, Professor Aishatu Abubakar Mukhtar was the Assistant Dean Female (Main Campus) Student Affairs Division, ABU Zaria from 2013 to 2020.

Born in the late 60s, Professor Aishatu Mukhtar hails from Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano state.

Her resilient academic journey saw her obtained her first degree in agriculture in 1990, M.Sc. Agronomy in 2002 and PhD Agronomy in 2009, all from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

Professor Abubakar joined the services of Ahmadu Bello University as Assistant Lecturer in 2002 and rose through the ranks to the pinnacle of her career as professor in 2015.

The learned Agriculturalist has dispensed knowledge in diverse ways as she has taught and supervised both undergraduates and post graduate students with outstanding research results; and she is also an external examiner to many Nigerian universities.

A diligent researcher, Professor Mukhtar is a recipient of several Awards including the best Poster Award presented at the Organic World Congress in 2014.

She has served the University in several committees as Member, Health Ethics Research Committee, Dress Code Committee and Quality Assurance Committee.

Professor Aishatu holds membership of different professional bodies including Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN), Horticultural Society of Nigeria (HORTSON) and International Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR).

She is widely travelled across the continents of Africa, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
