Following his emergence as tops among the 10 candidates that contested for the position of Vice Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, the council of the university has appointed Professor Muhammad Ahmed Abdul-Azeez of the department of Physics as the 7th Substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.
Prior to his appointment, Professor Abdul-Azeez was the immediate Past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the University. He also served as Director of the Institution’s School of Basic and Remedial Studies between 2014 – 2018.
Professor Abdul-Azeez served as the Coordinator Physics Programme of the institution between 2011 – 2014.
He was Deputy Dean, School of Science, between 2007 – 2017, Examination Officer, Physics Programme, between 2002 – 2009 and Registration Office, Physics Programme between 1996 – 2002.
Abdul-Azeez who was born on 23rd September, 1967 hails from Azare Local Government Area of Bauchi State, where he attended Nasarawa East Primary School, Azare between 1972 – 1978.
He proceeded to Government Secondary School Jama’are in 1978 where he graduated in 1983 from where he proceeded to College of Education Jalingo in 1983 and 1984 where he obtained his National Certificate of Education (NCE) in 1987.
Abdul-Azeez proceeded to Federal University of Technology, Yola in 1988 where he obtained his B.Tech (Hons) in physics with Second Class Upper in 1991. He proceeded to the university of Ibadan (UI) in 1994 where he obtained his M.Sc. in Theoretical Solid State Physics in 1995. He obtained his PhD in Energy Studies in 2007.
After the completion of his M.Sc., he joined the services of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in 1992, as a Graduate Assistant, from where he rose to the ranks of Assistant Lecturer in 1995, Lecturer II in 1998, Lecturer I in 2002, Senior Lecturer in 2005, Reader and Professor in 2008 and 2011 respectively.
A First Class researcher, Professor Abdul-Azeez has published several articles in Local and International Academic Journals. He has supervised several masters and PhD Students. He is happily married with seven children.
