In a grand gesture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renamed the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare after the late renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing him as a “nation’s conscience” who dedicated his life to spreading knowledge and promoting honesty and integrity.
The announcement was made during a condolence visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, where Tinubu eulogized the late Sheikh as a “renowned scholar” who positively impacted the lives of Nigerians. “He embodied the value of knowledge, honesty, and integrity, and a great character,” Tinubu said.
The President’s visit was met with warm reception from the state governor, Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who commended Tinubu for delegating a federal government team to observe the three-day prayers of the deceased. The governor also praised the President’s gesture, saying it was a testament to the APC family’s commitment to the late Sheikh’s legacy.
In a message read by Dr. Bashir Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, the 820-member family of the late cleric expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for his visit and for earlier delegating top government officials to represent him during the funeral and burial rites.
Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, who died at 101, leaves behind 82 surviving children, 512 grandchildren, and 206 great-grandchildren. His legacy as a scholar and a man of great character has been hailed by Nigerians, with many describing him as a “nation’s conscience”.
