The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has inducted 72 pharmacy graduates of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria into the Pharmacy Profession.

The event which was held at the Yusufu Bala Usman Hall of the University’s main campus celebrated the graduating students of the Second Semester, 2023/2024 session.

In his speech, the Registrar, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, represented by Pharm. Anthony Idokwo congratulated and hailed the graduands for their determination and resilience over the years of their Study, urging them to maintain high ethical conduct and leadership standards set forth by the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) and endeavour to serve as examples for the achievement of excellence in the provision of quality pharmaceutical services for sustainable health care delivery in Nigeria.

Highlighting the challenges posed to pharmacists by the dynamic of practice, technological advancements, increasing disease burdens, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions and drug resistance, among others, the Registrar educated that the PCN has institutionalized the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme to ensure to ensure the proficiency and continued relevance of pharmacists in the healthcare team with the patient in focus.

“It is worth noting that pharmacists competency is not only targeted at knowledge, attitude and skills, but also focuses on critical thinking skills and decision-making, innovation, social interaction (negotiation), leadership skills and inter-professional relationships,” he added.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kabiru Bala also congratulated the inductees and highlighted the importance of giving back to the university as alumni, through the ABU Endowments Fund, both intellectually and materially.
