Governor Abdullahi Alhaji Sule of Nasarawa State has announced that the state government will award a total cash gift of N44 million to the 82 first-class and best graduating students of the University.
The governor, who made the announcement today in his speech during the silver jubilee anniversary and 8th combined convocation ceremony of the University, clarified that while each of the 82 students who graduated with first-class degrees will receive a cash gift of N500,000, each of the three best graduating students will receive a cash gift of N1,000,000.
The Governor, who congratulated all the graduands, particularly the PhD graduands, said: “I have never seen this number of PhDs graduate today. The churning out of this number of PhDs sends a message of great academic achievement by our University.”
The governor, who urged the graduands who have attained great feats in their academic journey today, advised them to brace up for the challenge of building our great country, which is today at a crossroads.
The governor, who is also the visitor of the University, praised and thanked the Chancellor, His Royal Highness, the Emir of Keffi, Dr. Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Attahiru Jega, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, for their selfless service in making the University a greater citadel of learning and research.
He also thanked all the Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts of various tertiary institutions who came to show solidarity with the University on the auspicious occasion of its Silver Jubilee and 8th Combined Convocation. “I have never seen a convocation where heads of tertiary institutions attended like this,” he said.
Governor Sule also thanked the executive governors of Sokoto and Taraba and the alumni of the University for their wonderful contributions and support to the University, which included the provision of infrastructure and several other forms of donations.
