There have been mixed reactions ever since the presidential flag bearer of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, APC; Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced that the former Governor of Borno State, Senator Kashim Ibrahim Shettima is his Vice Presidential running mate for the 2023 presidential election which is a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

The decision by Bola Tinubu to flag a Muslim-Muslim ticket has been widely rejected as some think that there are many Northern Christians that would make a good Vice Presidential candidate.

Widely known Nigerian journalist and broadcaster Babajide Otitoju, who has won many awards has weighed in on the matter by saying that the Muslim-Muslim ticket ought not to be an issue If the leaders have been managing the diversity of the nation well.

According to the journalist who spoke during TVC’s hangout programme, he said there was a time when Nigeria had a Christian Head of State and a Christian Vice and nobody complaints about it then.

He said that Nigerian leaders did not do well in terms of managing the country’s diversity because during Yakubu Gowon’s regime, a Christian was the Head while another Christian was the second in command and nobody cared about it.

He also said that when Buhari was the Head of State, a Muslim was also his number two in the country and it was not an issue, likewise when MKO Abiola picked a Muslim Vice.
