The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, (NBTE), Professor Idris Muhammad Bugaje, has expressed satisfaction with the Federal Government’s decision to engage KPMG Advisory Services to restructure the board.
Professor Bugaje said the development is timely and aligns with the board’s commitment to reposition technical and vocational education for national development. He noted that a stronger regulatory framework is needed to meet current industry and economic demands.
He stated that the assessment and restructuring exercise will be in the best interest of the board and Nigeria’s skills development initiative. According to him, the intervention will help NBTE deliver on its mandate more effectively and efficiently.
The ES explained that the engagement of KPMG reflects government’s determination to build a modern, agile and fit-for-purpose NBTE. He said the board welcomes any initiative that will enhance its governance, institutional effectiveness and operational capacity.
Professor Bugaje said the restructuring will enable NBTE to better coordinate polytechnics, monotechnics and other technical institutions across the country. He added that improved oversight will translate to better quality assurance and accountability in the TVET sector.
He linked the development to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that a productive and globally competitive workforce can only be achieved through a responsive technical education system. He said NBTE is ready to work with all stakeholders to achieve that goal.
Professor Bugaje expressed optimism that the outcome of the KPMG assessment will produce a clear transformation roadmap for the board. He reaffirmed NBTE’s commitment to partnering with government, industry and development partners to build a technical education system that supports industrialisation, innovation and sustainable economic growth.
