In a major boost to food safety and livestock productivity in North Central Nigeria, the Livestock Productivity Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has approved the establishment of a Feed Analysis Laboratory at the Faculty of Agriculture, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Lafia Campus.
The announcement was made by the National Project Coordinator of L-PRES, Dr. Sanusi Abubakar, during a visit by the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, and her management team to the L-PRES office in Abuja.
Dr. Sanusi revealed that the Federal Government had approved three (3) Feed Analysis Laboratories nationwide, with the one at NSUK designated to serve the entire North-Central region. He congratulated the Vice-Chancellor on her appointment and commended her administration’s transformational leadership, assuring that more collaborative opportunities between L-PRES and NSUK would follow.
In her response, Professor Liman expressed profound gratitude to L-PRES for siting the facility at the University. She emphasized that strategic partnerships are key to institutional growth, noting that the Faculty of Agriculture has the requisite expertise and manpower to manage the Laboratory effectively. She assured that the lab would be fully utilized to advance research, innovation, and service delivery.
The L-PRES project, with a six-year lifespan, is designed to improve livestock productivity, resilience, and commercialization of selected value chains while also strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to respond to agricultural crises and emergencies.
