A lecturer with the Department of Languages, Kaduna Polytechnic, Austin Umera, has committed suicide at his residence at Kigo road in Kaduna, Kaduna State capital.
Reports say Umera shot himself after shooting his wife, Maurin, at about 11pm on Thursday.
Maurin, who is a part-time lecturer at the Department of Languages, Kaduna State University (KASU), is said to be receiving treatment at the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in the state capital.
The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital’s mortuary.
Muhammad Jalige, spokesperson of the police command, who confirmed the incident, said a locally-made pistol was recovered from the scene of the tragedy.
He disclosed that investigation has commenced into the incident.
