Gwantu Chiefdom in Sanga local government area of kaduna state has lost a prominent politician and traditional title holder, ‘Salanken’ Gwantu, Alhaji Yakubu Baba Ahmad.

According to the deceased’s eldest son, Comrade Aminu Yakubu, the Salanken Gwantu died at the aged of 63.

Popularly known as ‘Awo’, the short form of Awolowo, Alhaji Yakubu who died on 30th, April, 2024, following a brief illness in Gwantu, Headquarters of Sanga local government council, had since been buried in his country home – Numbu, according to Islamic rites.

The deceased, a retired civil servant-turned politician, was at one time a local government supervisory councilor in Sanga local government council.

Before becoming a councilor, as an active politician, he had held various positions in different political parties, the last of which was the Director of Campaign of the incumbent chairman of Sanga local government council.

The late Salanken Gwantu is survived by his wife – Halima Maisudan and nine children – Amina Yakubu Baba(30), Comrade Aminu Yakubu Baba (29).

Others include: Usman Yakubu Baba, Binta Yakubu Baba, Naja’atu Yakubu Baba, Khalid Yakubu Baba, Adamu Yakubu Baba, Lubabatu Yakubu Baba and Nana Khadija Yakubu Baba.
