The Joint Action Committee of Unions and Congregation of the Federal University Gusau have thrown their weight behind the University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Magaji Garba and Council Members; expressing Confidence that the committee is very well satisfied with the way the VC and Management of the University steer affairs of the University.
A Press Statement from the University’s information Officer Umar Usman, said the Joint Action Committee made their resolution in a communique issued after an emergency meeting of the association on Thursday 17th September, 2020, declaring the stand of the Unions on a purported petition claimed to have been written by the concerned members of the University staff.
The Joint Action Committee, which comprises of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), dissociated itself from the petition which was written on the University’s Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration and Internal Council Members of the University.
The Unions expressed dismay over the way and manner in which some individuals are hell bent on destroying the peace that the young University has been enjoying.
“We and our members have nothing to do with the petition and we are very well satisfied with the way the VC and Management of the University are steering the affairs of the University”, they said
“Those who wrote those petitions are not members of any of the Unions in the University”, the communique read.
In the same vein, the members of the University’s Congregation which is the third organ of the University apart from Council and Senate, and also the largest in terms of membership of staff, however passed a vote of confidence on the Council members and the Vice-Chancellor.
The congregation commended the Vice-Chancellor for his steadfastness in running affairs of the University with high sense of stability amidst wavering challenges.
