• TETFund to Pay €93,000 for their Upkeep, Flights

The French Government through the cultural Department of its Embassy in Nigeria has concluded plans to Sponsor 5 PhD candidates from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria to France.

This follows a memorandum of understanding entered between Ahmadu Bello University and France Embassy in Nigeria.

A statement from Ahmadu Bello University, signed by the Director,  Directorate of University Advancement Professor M.K. Aliyu, said the Embassy is in collaboration with TETFUND to Sponsor the students who will be selected based on merit.

According to the statement the Embassy will secure admissions, pay for the tuition fees and social security cost for the five students while TETFUND will take care of their up keep and flight ticket.

The statement also said that on its part, the Ahmadu Bello University’s Management is expected to only sign non-binding letter of intent as Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and contact the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) stating agreement with the arrangement. It also added that “this is a standard procedure that TETFund has agreed with and has so far implemented in two other universities in Nigeria.

The University is expected to submit names of 12 best students from Faculties of  Engineering, Sciences, Arts and Management Sciences to be screened by the Embassy.

The statement further clarified that the Directorate will further explore other areas of cooperation with other French Universities such as climate change, Urban planning, Archaeology and other areas that interest the Embassy.

It will be recalled that the immediate past Director of University Advancement, Professor Adamu Ahmed, has secured and signed many Memorandum of Understanding with different countries through their Embassies, in the Directorate Efforts to promote educational advancement in Nigeria.

In his effort to tread the path of the immediate past director, his successor, Professor Muhammadu Kabiru Aliyu has stepped up efforts to identify embassies and organizations within and outside the country that will be interested in partnering with Ahmadu Bello University in Areas of mutual interest and benefits.
