The Ahmadu Bello University’s Students’ Representatives Council (ABU-SRC) said it plans to close shops whose owners has increased prices on commodities unnecessarily.
The SRC president Mr Abubakar Ali made this known during an interactive session with our correspondent at the SRC secretariat in Samaru, Zaria.
He said said the move became necessary following various complains by students and after thorough consultations with all relevant stakeholders.
The SRC boss said it was on the foregoing that they constituted the students welfare and price regulatory committee saddled with the responsibility of ensuring students welfare within the university’s community.
In his words, Mr Ali “the students welfare and price regulatory committee will be in charge of all matters concerning students; monitor the prices of goods and services in order to forestall unnecessary hike in prices and exploitation of students”
In his words, Mr Abubakar Ali also said “we’ll also constitute a task force which will go round to monitor the the shops we faulted and also get firsthand information and take necessary action that concerns the particular shop”
He lauded the achievement of the SRC in regulating the prices of Wheelbarrow pushers popularly known as the Yaro Boys.
He also reassured the students that the SRC was doing all within it powers as the student’s representatives to ensure the students have a safer, more convenient semester.
