The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Bida in Niger State, Dr. Abubakar Abdul Dzukogi, has been given tenure extension to serve out his second and final term in office as the Rector of the institution with a waiver to exceed the constitutional retirement age of 65 years.

The extention, which was contained in a letter from the office of the Minister, Federal Ministry of Education, signed by the Director (Tertiary), Mr Ojo J. S., set aside the earlier notice of termination of the appointment of the Rector on 21st February 2021 at the attainment of the mandatory retirement age of 65 years.

The letter directed Dr Dzukogi to serve out his second and final term which terminates on 20th May 2023, stating that the Rector will proceed for retirement from the service with immediate effect as a staff of the institution on 15th February 2021 and continue to serve his tenure to 2023.

The statement however said that failure to comply with the directives, the Rector would vacate office on attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65 years on 15 February 2021.

“In line with extant provisions, I am directed to convey the approval of the Honourable Minister of Education for you to serve out your second and final term in office which terminates on 20th May 2023.

“However, you are required to retire with immediate effect as a staff of the institution and continue to run your second term.

“Failure to do so would mean that you would vacate office on attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65 years on 15th February 2021”, the letter read in part.
