The Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation has expressed readiness to partner the Nigerian Senate to actively implement projects on energy and mineral resources development, infrastructure, industry and promote military cooperation.

In a letter signed by Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, to commemorate with Nigerian Senate President, Ahmed Lawal, on the occasion of Nigeria’s 61st Independence celebration, said, “Relations between our countries, traditionally open and respectful in character, are based on the mutual aspiration towards a stronger partnership in the political sphere, trade and economy, cultural and humanitarian areas”.

Matvienko underscored the cardinal importance of promoting a trust-based bilateral dialogue, adding that, “I am convinced that cooperation between the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Senate of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will continue to grow stronger for the benefit of our nations and in the interests of stability and progress on the African continent”.

He assured the readiness of his country to fully support further strengthening of contacts in all areas.

While congratulating the Senate President, his colleagues and the entire country on the occasion of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Independence Day, the Russian Speaker wished the Nigerian legislature success in legislative work.
